About

Welcome to amiga600.net  – the online blog of Mike Parker. I live in Lowestoft and Cambridge and am Technical Director for buyaparcel.com. My company also offers online consultancy to other firms, trading as LRG Software.

My interests are the motivation of this blog. Since 2008, I have been a ham radio operator. In  2009, I obtained my full licence callsign, M0SAZ, which is what I operate most of the time (except when using my foundation callsign, M6LRG or intermediate, 2E0LRG, or for my local club). On the blog, I hope to include many operating experiences, along with opinion on equipment and technique. I am a member of the RSGB and FISTS.

I have always had an interest in the foundations of the computer revolution, from the ground-breaking developments in the 1970s to the amazing achievements made by the early players of the computer industry in the 1980s. Specifically, the Commodore Amiga, which was at the time highly advanced and unique in many areas, specifically graphics and the use of custom chips. I am still active in the Amiga user community, using the handle “A1200″ in the popular Amiga forums (amigaworld.net / amigans.net / amiga.org).

Politics and religion are other areas where, whist I am no expect, I do have views and ideas which are posted to this blog in the hope that it will give some who read food for thought. I am not a staunch Conservative but generally lean that way. I believe  however in common sense politics and have written several letters to the prime minister of whichever party is in power – with my opinions and ideas to better this country and the wider world. I am an atheist and through the blog hope to explain why religion cannot be taken seriously in these modern days of scientific understanding.

Working as technical director for an eCommerce business, I encounter lots of server hardware and software products and some are really interesting. By using the right combination of stable, scalable software and powerful, energy efficient hardware, one can produce a robust, dependable platform for an online business. The blog has anything noteworthy I use or review in my professional capacity.

Other things such as environmental issues, increasing population concerns and space travel / exploration I will talk about too. When time allows, I will contribute to the blog with holiday, hotel, restaurant, products, books, film and TV reviews or recommendations. Media items that interest me will also make appearances on this blog. Most blogs will be a micro blog in length – more useful than a tweet but not too long it sends everyone to sleep. I will only give paragraphs of text to blogs that really require such detail.

Enjoy,

Mike
